Stage 7.1 Teaching Sequence

The LLLL teaching sequence repeats Stage 7 Unit 1 in Foundation Term 4 and Year 1 Term 1.  Stage 7.1 Foundation focusses on introducing important new long vowel code, along with a spelling rule (no English words end in i) and new suffix -ing.  The Stage 7.1 Year 1 sequence additionally includes homophones, contractions and some more morphology ... prefix un- and the doubling spelling rule.

New Edition Teacher Activity Resource Stage 7.1

Teacher Activity Resource Stage 7 Unit 1 (new edition) will include two sets of plans for teaching Stage 7 Unit 1 in each year group - Foundation and Year 1. This is ensures more scaffolding for Foundation and more challenge for Year 1 - in line with the teaching sequence.

The new edition Teacher Activity Resource Stage 7.1 will be released at the start of Term 1.  A number of digital resources will be available earlier (see below for details!). Stage 7 student workbooks will be released later in the year, ready for book listing for 2026.

There are lots of new resources to look forward to in this update (it is over three times bigger than the current edition!). 

New features include:

• Weekly plans;
• Daily teacher notes for each planned routine, providing different word lists for Foundation and Year 1;
• Weekly introductions including essential teacher background knowledge and defined learning outcomes;
• What am I? activities to reintroduce phonemes in Year 1 (as opposed to repeating Sound Box);
• New handwriting practice sheets in all state handwriting fonts, utilising dotted thirds;
• End of week quizzes to check for understanding before moving on;
• Some additional practice sheets such as Where is the Sound?;
• Heart Words practice sheets and instructional support. 

Little Learners Love Literacy Online Resources

Little Learners Love Literacy Online (which still on special until the end of the year), already contains resources for Stage 7.1 Foundation and Year 1, and more are being added.
